Is that what it's like, Kirsten?

Before studying Brazil in my geography class, I had my students all write something on the board that they associated with Brazil. Here are my favorites:

BYU Tailgate

I was in such a festive mood from the previous week's partying, that I needed something else to dip in chocolate, so I came up with these:

That's an apple dipped in carmel, milk chocolate then covered with white chocolate. Yummy. And of course, if we had carmel apples, we needed to have a tailgate party.

Unfortunately, the second we got out of the car, it started to rain. We managed though.

Luckily, we brought hot chocolate. Mmmm...

Matt and Jessica were good sports, despite the freezing weather and wet rain. Here are typical M&J smiles.

As much as we were wishing we had brought a canopy to cover us from the rain, we were glad we didn't have one when the wind kicked up. The people across the street ended up trying to hold it from flying away when it tipped over and landed on top of their car.

When the weather calmed down, we enjoyed the rest of the tailgate with friends and family. Unfortunately the BYU-TCU game afterward was not so enjoyable.

BYU Party

I love BYU Football. I love parties. So when my aunt and uncle came down from Portland to visit a few weekends ago, I thought it would be fun to have a party and watch the BYU-SDSU game together. We had chili and all the fixings, served in my mom's fun football dishes.

I have been really into making Oreo Truffles lately, so I did a slight variant using Nutter Butters and shaped them like footballs. They turned out quite well, until I put them in the freezer and they got condensation on them. Duh. They were still cute (although my cousin Scott refused to admit it; he preferred "awesome").

It was a fun night. We enjoyed having Uncle Rob, Aunt Evelyn, Scott, Janelle, Alan, Michael and Savannah come over.

Why I do what I do

This is what my students did with their free time at the end of class:

Then, after school, one of my tennis players came in and left me this:

I love my job.

All I Have to Do Is Dream

Teaching at a high school, I have many people around me that are concerned about my romantic well being. I have a tennis player that is convinced that I am going to be her aunt. My sister-in-law warned me that this might happen, and she was right.

I don't remember what I said to prompt such a response, but one day someone in my government class said, "You need a boyfriend." Upon that suggestion, each student went through his or her mental rolodex looking for a single male of the appropriate age. One kid (who is unfortunate enough to have me for two different classes) responded, "I have a brother! He likes politics." Since then, he hasn't given up on the dream of having his teacher double as his sister-in-law. Every time we have class he reminds me of his brother's relationship status. He even tried to get me to hike Timp at sunrise with his brother and him. I kindly told him that if I were to go out with his brother (a big IF), I certainly wouldn't want him as our chaperone.

So after much prodding, I finally capitulated and went out with the brother... in my dream a couple nights ago. It's true. I had a dream that I went out with the brother of my student and I don't even know what he looks like. I think I need to spend a little less time at school.
